Abstract: In “Wings of Desire,” Pettman reveals Nikola Tesla’s profound and unconventional bond with pigeons—particularly a beloved companion—reframing this “creaturely love” as central to understanding his genius and emotional life. Drawing upon biographical anecdotes and contemporary reflections, the essay explores how Tesla’s devotion to birds was more than eccentricity—it offered insight into his psyche, priorities, and identity. Ultimately, Pettman argues that Tesla’s midnight pilgrimages to tend his pigeons and his willingness to nurse them reflect a deeply felt interspecies relationship that shaped his public persona and personal sanctuary
